We're currently experiencing issues with report refreshes due to the interaction between the sharepoint connector and retention policies. If the user performing the refresh is an owner of the sharepoint site with the data, than the process will fail because the connector will load also the files in the "preservation hold library". In our case these files have been deleted because they had malformed data, and replaced by the correct ones.
In my opinion it would make sense to have the connector ignore the preservation hold library by default, making it available with a flag for users that might need it for specific use cases.
