Power BI desktop freezing after April 2020 update

Hi,

My report in Power BI desktop is freezing after the April 2020 update when clicking on one specific chart.

It seems that there is something strange going on with a filter on the visual (see below screenshot). This filter is from a calculated column with data type 'text' and makes use of the following functions: FORMAT, MONTH, YEAR, WEEKNUM, IF, AND.

The ways the issue can be solved:

  1. Remove the chart by hoovering over the chart and remove the chart by using the 3 points in the top right corner.
Power BI will freeze by clicking on the chart and then deleting it.
  2. Delete the calculated column in the table, remove the filters and create the calculated column again.

Can someone explain how this can occur and how it can be prevented? Is it a bug from the April release? Other users experiencing the same issue?

Also note that using this calculated column as a filter in a new or other existing visual, still works perfectly.

Thanks for looking into this!

Hi @BennyM

What's the exact chart visual did you use has the issue? If you recreate the exact same visual with same calculated column, did the same issue occur?

It would be better if you could share pbix file with us. Please remove sensitive data in the report, upload pbix file to your OneDrive for Business then paste the share link here.

Hi Qiuyun,

It's a line and stacked column chart. Everything works perfectly when reproducing the visual with same calculated column as filter.

Here is the link to the pbix file: PBI Freezing after April 2020 update.pbix

Thanks and kind regards,

Benny
