Enable OneDrive/ Sharepoint upload from Power BI with O365-/Power BI Pro-license (option still grey)

Hello all, and especially the support team,

Like Ian Altis , about since a month we experience problems with 'Upload PBIX to Sharepoint or Onedrive' from https://app.powerbi.com: the option is greyed out with a message that a subscription is required, and this was working before.

Two solutions have been tested on Chrome/Edge/Firefox, and the option from the workspace is still greyed out, and the sync to Onedrive has been disabled. All our projects with this method are disrupted.

1. Usergroups have a M365 and Power BI Pro-license. The logged in users are members of the groups. 2. On the site root level and library permission level “Limited Access”, the permission “UseRemoteAPIs” have been set. 3. Granted access to the same user groups as in Power BI and thus propagating RemoteAccessAPI permissions.

Please help, that would be appreciated. Is this a permanent, or a temporary workaround? Syncing PBIX Onedrive, and Sharepoint files to a Power BI workspace is an appreciated functionality. I replied to the previous issues with this message, and it is still marked as delivered, as it is clearly not.

Status: Accepted

Hi @ekoekkoek ,

The issue was reported internally, engineers will do their best to resolve the issue. I will update here if there is any progress, so please be patient.

Additionally, a workaroud is provided below:

1. check if disabling MCAS works i.e, access powerbi using https://app.powerbi.com instead of https://app.powerbi.com.mcas.ms

2. check if disabling useRootUrlFilePicker feature switch works by adding ?useRootUrlFilePicker=0 to the url

Best regards,

Hi @ekoekkoek ,

The issue was reported internally, as of now, the issue has nothing update with the previous thread in which a workaroud is provided. For the question "Is this a permanent, or a temporary workaround", it wasn't clearly stated. Do you mean the problem still can't be mitigated by the workaroud or you need a better way.

Best regards,

We are experiencing this as well. It seems to affect some users in the organization and not others. The issue is also intermitten. It happens on some days and goes away with reauthentication, then a few days with no issues. And now it is happening again - and reauthentication is not happening. Were there any releases recently that could have caused it? Need a fix this is disrupting our work.

Hello v-yanjiang-msft!

Thank you for your attention. We need a solution. Unfortunately, the solutions provided thus far has not enabled or reinstated access to Sharepoint or Onedrive from Power BI, and no workaround that has fixed this.

My workaround is: I have useraccounts with this problem: creating a new user account with matching properties, licensing and userrights as the account with the problem. Then Sharepoint/Onedrive is accessible, but this is not a sustainable solution.

Can I provide with more detailed information?

Ok. Microsoft 365 support replied today with: "In order to move faster towards a possible solution, I reached out to Power Bi specific Support Team, and they are working on your case, too.  Your request entails a great number of Engineers belonging to different technologies." Keep you posted!
