Matrix - Per Column Level - Show Subtotal off :- Renders the incorrect values

This is a strange bug.  I get the same outcome using Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service.  In the below screenshot, I have duplicated a Matrix such that the only difference is the highlighted toggle.  As you can see in the bottom matrix, the values in the bottom matrix are incorrect.  They are the values from the top matrix, transposed in the same column coordinates.

That being, the top matrix has 7 columns.  The bottom has 4 columns.  The bottom's values are columns 1 to 4 from the top Matrix, instead of being columns 1, 3, 5, 7.

The issue is not present when the Columns are collapsed up (second screenshot).  I can remove either column's field and see the correct result.

I have tried to reproduce the issue in a small example file, but could not get the same issue.  This suggests that this only occurs when the complexity of the model & measures grow. (Third Screenshot)

Status: Investigating

Hi @RossEdwards

Currently our Desktop has been updated to 2.128.1380.0 64-bit (April 2024), you can test on this version . Since the fix for the problem will only be fixed on the new version, PG will still let you update to the latest version to test it if you're having problems with an older version.

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

If the problem still exists, I suggest you can raise a Support Ticket . A dedicated Microsoft engineer will come to solve the problem for you.

It would be great if you continue to share in this issue to help others with similar problems after you know the root cause or solution.

Hi @RossEdwards

That means that when the model structure is simple, the data shown by Total is correct, right? And when the complexity of the model & measures grow that you mentioned, what level of complexity is it? Can you provide a sample for testing? Also, what version of Desktop are you currently using?

The model's complexity is quite high although the measures and tables used in this example are more simple.  There are still 3 layers of measures used here (Base measure, Standard Measure, Time Intelligence Measure).

I'd be unable to provide a sample file on such a public forum but can link to Microsoft similar to how we resolve support tickets, if that helps identify the rendering bug.

The desktop version is currently 2.123.684.0 64-bit (November 2023). I realise thats an older version, hence we I also tested it on the  service as it will be more current.  Our internal systems are centrally managed so we get desktop updates on regular intervals.

Thanks. Its hard for us to update based on how our AppV environment is set up.  We have an older version in TEST just about to go out, so i'll have some difficulty trying the latest version for a few months.

I'll have to revisit this then.
