Unnable to connect to SQL Server 2012

Details: "Microsoft SQL: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)"

Hi @vids08,

 

Which action did you perform then the error throws out? In Power BI desktop, get data from SQL database, or In Power BI service create a SQL data source under Manage Gateways? 

 

In your scenario, please make sure connection string is correct. Also make sure you are able to ping the physical server where SQL Server is installed from the client machine (machine has Power BI desktop or on-premise data gateway installed).
