Streaming dataset fails when historic data analysis is ON

Hi,

I am using several streaming datasets with hybrid API access ("historic data analysis" toggle switched ON), and since 1 week they regularly and randomly fail:

  • API push requests return status 500: "SQL operation failed: The Database operation reached a timeout of '00:01:30'"
  • Same error when I try to delete rows from the dataset (either via API or via switching the "historic data analysis" toggle OFF and back ON again)
  • Data is not visible in Power BI Service anymore (creating a new report based on the dataset throws an error: "Somethin went wrong")

So the datasets are basically frozen. No access, and any interaction with them throws an error. Only way to fix was to delete the dataset and recreate it. After using this workaround daily for a week now, I now cannot even create new streaming datasets anymore. Same error as above.

I already opened a ticket a week ago (119070221000488) which is still open, but the guys are unable to help me. I read on several other posts that realtime streaming datasets regularly show flaky behavior. Is this a common issue?

Any help is highly appreciated.

@tlmnk I can confirm that all my datasets working well since yesterday.

I had the first one failing again this morning. However, this time I could simply fix it by deleting all rows via the API.

I might add this API call to all my applications to delete all rows say once per day. Maybe that helps so that the internal SQL database that the Power BI service is using doesn't get corrupted again...

@tlmnk and @maxavi  Are they still working for you?

One of mine stopped yesterday around 19:00 CEST and the other already a few hours before that. At the moment both of them do not work.

Any news from the support team?

@Han12345 No it's not working anymore. We do a push of data around midnight and we have the timeout error again.

@Anonymous Did the support team give any indication on when this will be fixed? It's getting pretty annoying that it is still not working.

I get daily updates from the guys in India, but it's always "the product team is working on it" without an indication of time. It's been really annoying to have this issue. I am afraid that I will have to start looking for alternatives...

That is pretty annoying indeed... My streams started working again on wednesday morning again by the way.

And there is more good news! The issue is finally acknowledged on the Power BI support site (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/nl-nl/support/) and also a permanent fix is announced:

"Some customers in the North and West Europe regions may experience intermittent issues with Push Data. Engineers have implemented mitigation steps to help prevent the issue from occurring and expect the permanent fix to be deployed to all regions by end-of-day 7/21/2019."
