When I am working on a dataset from my PowerBI service on my Power BI destop, the option to get data from any other source is diabled. Please help.

Since this connection is a live connection, left-navigation and modeling are disabled. You can only connect to one dataset in each report. This behavior is similar to the behavior when connected to SQL Server Analysis Services.
@Anonymous , If you have taken the power Bi dataset, you can not add others.

I need to start working on another data, do I need to restart the PowerBI Destop ?

This is not very clear. Are you working on having a report with multiple data sources? Otherwise you might want to create another report and repeat the get data procedure.

yes, I think start new project is the best and even maybe the only way in your case
