The difference refers to other aspects. For built-in date hierarchy, both DirectQuery and connect live mode shares the same limitation.

You are connecting to Azure AS using connect live mode. This is an expected behavior that date hierarchy is not applicable in live connection mode. Please review the limitation in this article:
No built-in date hierarchy: When importing data, then by default every date/datetime column will also have a built-in date hierarchy available by default. For example, if importing a table of sales orders including a column OrderDate, then upon using OrderDate in a visual, it will be possible to choose the appropriate level (Year, Month, Day) to use. This built-in date hierarchy is not available when using DirectQuery mode.

Thank you for you're reply, but based on the article you are referring to No built-in date hierarchy is not available in Direct Query mode and also it is said in that article that Live Connection is different from Direct Query.
