Hi!
I have a dataset that contains one unique ID and multiple dates (milestones). Example structure below:
ID | Task 1 | Task 2 | Task 3 | Task 4 | Task 5 | Task 6 | Task 7 | Task 8 | Task 9 | Task 10 | Task 11 | Task 12 | Task 13 |
1 | 1/1/2019 | 1/2/2019 | 1/4/2019 | 1/6/2019 | 1/7/2019 | 1/8/2019 | 1/9/2019 | 1/10/2019 | 2/1/2019 | 2/2/2019 | 2/3/2019 | 2/5/2019 | 2/8/2019 |
2 | 1/6/2019 | 1/7/2019 | 1/8/2019 | 1/9/2019 | 1/10/2019 | 2/1/2019 | 2/2/2019 | 2/3/2019 | 2/5/2019 | 2/8/2019 | 2/10/2019 | 2/14/2019 | 2/15/2019 |
I would like to create a gantt chart where the bars I want to show are as follows:
(Start Date > End Date)
Task 1 > Task 2
Task 1 > Task 3
Task 1 > Task 4
Task 1 > Task 5
Task 1 > Task 6
Task 6 > Task 7
Task 6> Task 8
Task 6 > Task 9
Task 6 > Task 10
(The latest date of Task 7, 8, 9, or 10) > Task 11
Task 11 > Task 12
Task 12 > Task 13
Task 1>Task 14
I've tried a couple unpivoting methods but can't seem to manipulate the data correctly... any help appreciated!
Hi @Anonymous ,
Please provide more detailed description about the desired Gantt Chart view.
Do you want to show Task 1 > Task 2, Task 1 > Task 3, Task 1 > Task 4......as category in Gantt chart? But, why you show Task 1 > Task 2, Task 1 > Task 3...until Task 1 > Task 6, from Task6, the category changed to Task 6 > Task 7, Task 6> Task 8 and so on?
Best regards,
Yuliana Gu
The reason for the configuration has to do with what makes sense for the process I am trying to show.
If this part of the question is confusing to you, a more simple question to start with is how to turn a data set structured as a list of dates (seen in my original question) into the correct format for a gantt chart. The gantt chart in Power BI requires the format listed by task with a start and end date. I'm having trouble converting projects with a list of different milestones into a usable format.
I've downloaded a couple gantt chart examples online, but all of those have data in the easy format (Tasks with a start and end date) so I'm really looking for an example of manipulating a list of dates into a gantt chart.
Hope this makes sense! Thanks! @v-yulgu-msft
