After creating a custom column related to another table the data can be viewed on desktop BI; however when generating underlying data on online BI the column is missing. How can this be rectify?

What do you mean about generating underlying data?
After creating the custom column, you'll need to republish the pbix file from Power BI Desktop to reflect the changes on Power BI service in this scenario.

Underlying data refers to exporting data.
I did republish the pbix file from Power BI Desktop but exporting data from online Power BI the columns still does not appear.
