I share a report with several people within the organization. Two of them received the "couldn’t retrieve the data for this visual" error and could not see the table visualizations. The file is not very big and only has two tables.

Hi @timazarj ,
If the data source is connected by direct query, you need to make sure that the local data gateway is working properly.
If the gateway is abnormal, it will result in visual not being able to fetch the dependent data via query. For reference.
after stop on-premises gateway, visual get error:

The data sources are cloud based excel and a Sql table that import to the power bi.
