User is supposed to be report author and Yet we Need to Implement RLS

Hi,

We have a shared Dataset by 100 users with different Distribution Codes and Country Codes. We nee RLS for this Model. But RLS only valid with Viewer Role, whereas Our End Users do create Reports on thier Own, so we need to assign them contributor role. Is there any other way to achieve RLS in this scenerio, other than creating 100 different Datasets.

 It is impossible to achieve this. As the document said, RLS feature requires users not have edit permission for this dataset.

Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI#using-rls-with-workspaces-in-power-bi 

If you have configured the workspace so that members have edit permissions, the RLS roles will not be applied to them. Users will be able to see all of the data.

I suggest you create an idea for it  in https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas to improve the power bi.

Hi @Anonymous,

Would utilising two workspaces and an app work best here? You could use RLS in one space to provide "viewers" RLS restricted access to datasets via the app, and then have a seperate space for users to publish reports which could then be copied over.

A little fiddly but probably easier than 100 datasets.
