Yes, there are some features available in Tableau that are not supported or not as robustly implemented in Power BI, as of last update in April 2023. Both Tableau and Power BI are powerful data visualization tools, but they have their unique strengths and limitations. Here are some notable differences:

1. Data Visualization and Design Capabilities: Tableau is often recognized for its advanced and sophisticated data visualization capabilities. It provides more flexibility and a wider range of visualization options compared to Power BI. Tableau is particularly strong in creating complex, layered visualizations and has more options for customization.

2. Data Handling and Processing: Tableau has a more robust data engine compared to Power BI. It can handle larger datasets and more complex data blending scenarios. This is particularly useful for users who are dealing with very large and complex datasets.

3. Mapping and Geospatial Analysis: Tableau offers superior mapping capabilities compared to Power BI. It has more geospatial options and can integrate more smoothly with spatial files, providing a more robust platform for geographic data analysis.

4. Data Exploration: Tableau's interface is designed to encourage exploration and discovery in the data. It has a more intuitive drag-and-drop interface that can be more conducive to exploring data patterns without a predefined notion of what you're looking for.

5. Mobile Deployment and Responsiveness: Tableau's mobile app and mobile-optimized views are generally considered to be more advanced than those of Power BI, offering a better user experience on mobile devices.

6. Integration with R and Python: Tableau offers more seamless integration with R and Python for advanced analytics. While Power BI also allows integration with R and Python, the process is more straightforward and flexible in Tableau.

7. Community and Support: Tableau has a very active community and a vast range of training resources and forums. This community support can be a significant advantage for users looking to learn and troubleshoot.

It's important to note that the landscape of these tools is constantly evolving, with both Tableau and Power BI regularly adding new features and capabilities. Users should assess the latest updates and versions of both platforms to make the most informed decision based on their specific needs.

I am missing the architectural discussion a little bit. Tableau is based on the work of Jacques Bertin (Semiology of Graphics) and Grammar of Graphics like Vega etc.   Power BI is centered around the VertiPaq columnar query engine.  Two very different approaches and philosophies.

Hi @powerbiexpert22 ,

In my real-world scenario, the biggest drawback is:
Compatibility with iOS: Power BI is not available to Mac desktop users. to access Power BI on iOS devices, it must be installed on a virtual machine.
Limited Excel Integration: Power BI offers excellent Excel integration, but data downloads are capped at 150,000 rows, which can be limiting.

There are probably a lot of unsupported features, but it depends on your specific business scenario. You can refer to below document:
