I have a PBI report that is connected to a semantic model in the PBI service.
Is there a way to achieve this easily:
Open up the report locally
Open up semantic model locally
Switch connection in report to point at the local AAS instance
Test some changes
Switch connection back to PBI Service semantic model
Hey @BIanon ,
I am not sure if this meets all of your qualifications but if you open the file and the data source locally, then you can go to the Data Source Settings and modify the connection to use the local location. Then, you can test your changes. And then, you can switch it back to the main data source location before re-publishing the file.

Hello, I am trying to make a demo of how to replace a flat file with a query of the database in a separated report/demo pair. This is the setup, with both pbix files being downloaded versions of a published separated report. I am finding no way to point the report at the local version of the semantic model, only a published version.
Here is the file setup.
This is the pop-up when choosing either "Transform data" or "Get data"
then "Add a local model"
This is the pop-up when choosing File>Options and settings>Data source settings
No where am I seeing a way to use the local version of a .pbix as a semantic model for a "separated" report .pbix file. Thanks for any insight.
Hi @bmcminn ,
You will have to set up the Data Source in your gateway.
