Currently my organization has deployed Power BI Service to our end users as a self-serve solution via Content Packs. I develope template reports with a data model and deploy that out to the Power BI Service as a content pack. End users are able to retrieve the content pack, make a copy and create thier own reports that are contained in their own private workspace (My Workspace).
This process, for the most part, has worked very well for us. With the statements coming out of Microsoft that Content Packs will be depricated and Apps will be the only solution, I have some questions on how we can maintain this type of a workflow. We are a Mac shop so deploying Desktop to everybody is not a solution.
Is there any direction with Apps to add functionallity that would allow a user to save a copy of a report and dataset to their own personal workspace that is editable? Is anybody else out there concerned about the functionality of Content Pack delivery going away and found another workable solution for a self-serve environment?
Thanks,
Tonya
Hi @TonyaRobbins,
Based on my research, you could not get this feature currently, you could vote for this idea: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/31610983--copy-to-workspace-funct...

Hi @TonyaRobbins,
could you please tell me if your problem has been solved? If it is, could you please mark the helpful replies as Answered?

It didn't solve the problem.
Microsoft needs to incorporate the same functionality they have provided in Content Packs into Apps. Without adding the ability for an end user to make a copy of a dataset/report in Apps to create their own reports from, it's not resolved.
I'm very confused as to why they are headed this direction.
