PBI gateway and PBI desktop

The issue: Create many reports that require a Gateway for publishing with refresh capability from an Oracle database.

Oracle DB is moved.

Must change the Server and DB service name in the Gateway, can retain the Gateway Name.

Must change the Server and DB service name in EVERY report.

It makes more sence to me to use whatever connection I want from PBI Desktop but if I am also going to use a gateway let me configure that in the Services as now and just address it by Gateway name in PBI Desktop. This way I can develop in PBI Desktop against a source and publish against my actuall source and only ever have to change the server and service name in the Gateway.

Hi there,

I can easily see how this can be a challenge. I would hope that you do not have the Oracle DB move that often.

Another option is to use parameters for the data sources, so you can change all the report connections in the Power BI Service.

Here is my blog post where I explain how to do this: https://www.fourmoo.com/2018/03/27/using-the-power-bi-service-parameters-to-change-connection-string...
