Incremental refresh : data published and older than the refresh row period are deleted

Dear all,

When I publish a report to Power BI service from Power BI desktop, local data from Power BI Desktop are sent to Power BI Service.

After the first refresh, the data older than the refresh row period (1 day in my case) are all deleted. Therefore, I cannot bring older data than the refresh period. In the past, incremental refresh didn't erase data older than the refresh period, and this was how we bring older data to Power BI Service.

My configuration:
Queries using incremental refresh : 1 year of store values, 1 day of refresh period.

I guess there has been a change to the Power BI service ?

Is there a workaround ?

In my context, I develop in Power BI desktop, publish in Power BI service and schedule refresh (incremental) every day at 8:00 AM. Therefore, everyday at 8:00 AM, Power BI Service get the data from the previous day incrementally without erasing older data.

I would like to be able to bring old data (previous month for example) when I publish the report.

Thanks a lot to have a look in this problem.

Best Regards,

Hello All,

Does anyone know when I am republishing the incremental refresh dataset sample into the service; is not success and gives a error message? I was able to publish the dataset into the service for the first time, when I make changes to some visuals and edit the parameter value and try to republish, it is not working. Why?

Hi @Astra ,

When using incremental refreshing in Power BI, older data will not be refreshed or imported again into Power BI.

You may refer to this blog for help.

Hi @Astra

What I would recommend due to the timezone potential issue is to configure it to run over the past 2 days. This will allow it to refresh the data and hopefully not delete the other data?

In the meantime, I found also this possibility from Tom : https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Incremental-Refresh-and-Re-Publishing-from-Desktop/m-p/1262... which I will test it later.

If you know an easier alternative ?
