Hi all,
I have an Excel spreadsheet connected to my Power BI dataset, so that I can employ a couple of Pivots and charts not easily replicated in the Power BI report. It's manually refreshed as and when required.
On that same set of Excel worksheets, data is generated that Power BI imports on a scheduled refresh. So the same Excel file is being used for import and export.
I haven't had any problem with this so far, but am I asking for trouble? Am I risking corruption if I try to refresh the Excel sheet at the same time that Power BI is doing a scheduled refresh to the same file?
And if it is ok, how much of my luck am I pushing if I import the Excel sheet into Power BI properly such that the pivots and charts are visible in the Power BI service and available to dashboards?
I can acheive all of this using separate files of course, but it does so little that it seemed potentially more elegant to use just one...
Odd question, I know, but I can't quite find the answer!
hi, @Anonymous
It is an Odd question, I have tested oy side, and I haven't had any problem with this so far too.
It seems that everything works well. But i think you'd better use separate files of course to avoid sudden and unnecessary mistakes.
And If you want to learn more about this for Power BI, you'd better create a support ticket in Power BI Support to get further help, and then share the result with us too.
Best Regards,
Lin
Thank you, Lin. That's a good idea. If there are already safeguards in place it's a method that could be embraced. I'll log something and let you know. 😄
