What is the best practice for sharing a dashboard online, and preferably a way to allow for interactions (comparative to Tableau Server). The scenario is outlined below...
- We will have a SQL database hosted in Azure
- The Dashboard would then be connected to Azure
- The goal is to be able to share this dashboard over the web so that clients can view and interact with it as needed.
Is this possible? If so is it done through SharePoint, azure, or a PowerBI group?
Appreciate any help here.
Currently it is not possible to share private reports over the internet unless the reader has the same email domain as the report author. I am sure this will change in the coming months. MS released a new service called Pubic Story Telling today. This can be used to share non-private information over the Internet. I am sure the private sharing is not far away.
I wrote a blog about this new sharing service that you can read here if you are interested.

To answer your other questions, you can use a hosted DB or a private one - both will work. I don't think one or the other is best practice - it really depends on what you want to do. PowerBI.com CAN host of copy of the data so you don't need live access to the DB, or alternatively you can link it back to your database to avoid having to put your DB in the cloud.
