Hi all,
Suppose we have Enterprise SQL Server with Software Assurance to use Power BI Report Server. Could the cores count of the Power BI Report Server be more than the core number of the SQL Server license it is associated with?
Can the core count of PBI Report Server ( 8-cores) be different than the core count of Enterprise SQL Server license (4-cores) ?
Can the core counts of these server be independent of each other?
Hi,
I don't think you may install the Report Server on a different machine than the SQL Server at all!

Michael

You can install PBIRS and SQL on separate machines, it's just that both would have to have SQL licenses. So if you had a 4 core SQL Server and an 8 core PBIRS server you would need to purchase a 12 core license.
Hi @mehmet-vrp !
This is something interesting. Usually you buy SQL Server License for the allocated cores, Software Assuanrance come up with addiotnal benifts which also includes, PBI Report Server License key.
You PBI Report Server Installtion can be on different server machine, but the specification if i remember says you need to buy for the cores where you will be running PBI Report Server. I will post that documentation here as well.
So, you can't have a PBI Report Server with 64 cores, and buy a SQL Server Licenser for 8 cores.

Hasham
