HOW CAN WE SCHEDULE THE REFRESH OF THE DATA SOURCE WHICH IS IN IMPORT MODE IN THE COMPOSITE MODEL

Hello everyone,
We have a scenario where we are using composite model (one Direct query data source and one import mode data source). We are developing the report on Power BI desktop version (service) but we are publishing it on Power BI Report server (just to add we are doing this as a workaround as composite model is not possible in Power BI report server and we are having Power BI report server in the project).

Everything is working as expected but we have a blocker where we can not schedule a refresh of the data source which is in import mode. The Direct Query data source is working fine and bringing data in real time.

BUT HOW CAN WE SCHEDULE THE REFRESH OF THE DATA SOURCE WHICH IS IN IMPORT MODE IN THE COMPOSITE MODEL as we are not getting option of scheduling refresh on Power BI report server.

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks @v-xiaoyan-msft  for your reply.

And you pointed out correctly that composite model is not possible on PBI report server. But we are using a workaround by creating it on PBI desktop (service version) and then publishing it on Report Server. However there we do not get these settings which we get with PBI service.

In addition, the composite model is working fine on Report server once we create and publish it from PBI Desktop (service version).

Hi @SumitPandey ,

I'm a little confused, is your problem solved now? Does the link above help? If not, would you mind detailing your needs a bit more?

@v-xiaoyan-msft : No the issue is not solved. Re-iterating again, We want the composite model to be used as per our use case but we can't use the Power BI service as we have on-prem Report Server. And as we know that composite model are not supported in Report server we did a workaround using PBI service desktop version and created a report in composite model and many-to-many.

It got published and the direct query data source is refreshing in real time as well. But we also want to refresh the imported data source and that is where we are stuck.

I know we can do it on PBI service with the solution you shared but right now we are publishing it on report server where we are not seeing these options.

Hi @SumitPandey ,

Please correct me if I have misunderstood your meaning.

Since composite models are not supported in Power BI Report Server at this time.
Are you now trying to configure a schedule refresh for the composite model on Power BI Service?

You can refer to the following article Power BI Tips: Schedule Refresh on Composite Models
