Gateway on a server?

Good afternoon,

We would like to access files on a server via Power BI seamlessly. Currently, there is a setup where a computer is connected to the hardware server. This computer hosts an on-premise gateway, through which we establish connections to the files on the server.

The issue is that this computer needs to remain powered on at all times to access the files. Unfortunately, it frequently shuts down, rendering the files inaccessible.

Is there a possibility to install this gateway directly on the server so that it remains available at all times? After all, the server experiences minimal downtime.

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Bart

The default install location for gateway cluster members is on-premise VMs.  Gateways should not be installed on systems that also run other services, as this will lead to resource starvation conflicts (memory and compute).
