Hello,
I installed the Windows 10 app on my PC as it doesn't require admin rights and automatically updates without the need for me to submit a help desk ticket every month to get my desktop version updated by IT. It's much more convenient, however I've found that I cannot access my network files from the app, whereas I have no problems doing so from Desktop. Any ideas why that may be? I'd like to dump desktop all together and soley use the app due to its convenience, but I really need to be able to access the network!!
Hey @jhartranft60 ,
If you are using this app - https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9NBLGGGZLXN1, then it does not have same funtionality as Power BI Desktop app.
Power BI mobile app for Windows is designed for content viewing, targeted for those who need to view business metrics, but not for the report builders/developers.
Regards,
Maya
Hi @mshenhav
No, I'm referring to the Desktop app: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/power-bi-desktop/9ntxr16hnw1t
I have both it and Power BI Desktop x64 installed (for now). Desktop x64 requires admin rights to update, the Desktop app automatically updates itself, hence the convenience I referred to. Desktop x64 can reach my network files though, whereas the Desktop app kicks back the following error:
Unable to open document
An error occurred while trying to open <network file path>: An unexpected network error occurred.
Please post your question in Power BI Desktop: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/bd-p/power-bi-designer
Thanks, Maya
