hi all,
i'm trying to understand the following point: as power bi can be used as a powerful data sources aggregator where to perform data transformation and data modelling (relationships&dax formulas), would be possible to run all the mentioned activities in this environment to, then, export the data model to another service (ie. azure) which will be the source for the dashboards (to be created in another way/tool)? i know that sounds weird, but feel free to suggest any other environment to run all the data modelling activities.
Specifically, I'd like to know if it's possible to:
1. export data from power bi -> i've read it's possibile to export data to azure sql from power bi/power query
2. to what tools: as above, but i'd like to know if also other databases are applicable (think it's likely to be possible)
3. what kind of data it's possibile to export -> the point less clear to me. Data can be exported, but I guess not the DAX expressions done after the import (only the formulas applied in the power query view). am I right?
4. export of the relationships -> i guess these can't be exported
thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous,
Regarding exporting data from the Power BI, there could be two aspects. One is exporting data from the visuals and another is exporting the .pbix file from the Power BI Service. As far as I know, we can't do other actions like exporting a SQL query.
Indeed, we can import a pbix file into the Azure Analysis Service. BUT it's deprecated, which means this isn't a good idea. Please refer to analysis-services/analysis-services-import-pbix. I think there are many other wonderful tools can do better than Power BI. Such as SSDT.

Dale

The Power BI data model under the hood is a tabular cube (SSAS) and there are blog articles about how to connect it, etc. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that at some point it will be super easy to build your data model in Power BI and then export to Azure Analysis Services but I do not believe that easy integration exists yet.
thank you for your reply.
Therefore, using a tabular cube tool (ie. sql server data), I can work on the data modelling and then connect it to another tool, right?
thanks
Not sure I understand what you mean but sure?
