I’m trying to follow the sample code to create a custom connector to Github.
See here https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/powerquery-docs/tree/master/powerquery-docs/samples/Github
In the read me it states:
Note about compatibility issues in Visual Studio: The Power Query SDK uses an Internet Explorer based control to popup OAuth dialogs. Github has deprecated its support for the version of IE used by this control, which will prevent you from completing the permission grant for you app if run from within Visual Studio. An alternative is to load the extension with Power BI Desktop and complete the first OAuth flow there. After your application has been granted access to your account, subsequent logins will work fine from Visual Studio.
The implication is Power BI Desktop uses a control which is supported by GitHub.
However when I try and sign in (inside Power BI Desktop) it loads a IE window and there is the message
‘GitHub no longer supports this web browser. Learn more about the browsers we support’
Is there a way around this, other than copying and pasting the HTML into chrome ?

Just in case anyone is reading, I got around this by, right clicking the pop-up window (which is IE), right clicking and getting the full URL and copying this into a supported browser (Chrome) then I was prestened with the screen to allow acccess and it worked.
But is there any way just to change default browser ? Because when I load the extension on Power BI desktop, it also opens IE , I need to open Chrome instead of IE
When you say 'it doesn't work for me' that doesn't really help me understand what problem you are facing, why didn't it work ? If you want anymore help please provide a lot more informaiton in a concise way.
Hi BlueSky, did you find the solution?
Yes I did, see message 2 on this thread. I've now marked it as the solution
I saw it ,but it doesn't work for me, I need power BI using chrome or edge directly I would need to undestand why Microsoft reports this "...An alternative is to load the extension with Power BI Desktop and complete the first OAuth flow there.." but that is not actually working. Any way using registry to force power bi to use another browser?
