Use existing Cognos package or report as source for PowerBI report

Is it possible to refer a model(package) present in cognos or directly an existing cognos report as a data source from PowerBI desktop to create report?

Hi @psingh1 ,

It is not supported to connect to Cognos TM1 directly in Power BI Desktop now. While you can vote this idea :https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/7635186-cognos-tm1-as-a-data-sour... , to improve the Power BI Desktop.

Additionally, there are some workarounds in this scenario. One solution ,Firstly, you can create a ODBC connection for Cognos TM1 database, then connect to the ODBC data source in Power BI Desktop. For detailed information about creating IBM Cognos TM1 data source in ODBC Data Source Administrator, see: How to Configure cognos datasource via ODBC Connection. Secondly, follow the instructions in this video to connect to Cognos TM1 in Power BI Desktop, you may need to use TM1 Gateway.

The another solution, you can create the Export Files in ".csv" format, so you can import these files in Power BI as Excel Sheets.

Best Regards,

Amy
