Updating a parameter after opening a .pbit template

Hello all,

I have a huge dataset (GBs of .xlsx files) in a folder. I have developed a dashboard to load and analyze a subset of all the data. I did this by creating a parameter which I then use to filter the file names, e.g.:

Parameter = Client A, then the dashboard only loads files named "Client A - Sequence number.xlsx".

I save it as a .pbit and I am asked for the parameter once I open it, and this loads the data for Client A. It works like a charm.

However, I'd like to add a feature that lets me change the parameter after I open the pbit file. This would allow me to load another subset (e.g. Client B, instead of Client A).

I was thinking something like a slicer. I tried this, basing the slicer on the list that feeds the parameter but it is static, i.e. when I change Client A to Client B nothing happens.

What do you guys think,

Hi, @Anonymous

It is unavailable to achieve your requirement by using slicers. You may use 'Manage Parameter' to achievement it.

Based on description, I created two excel files as follows.

You may import the Client A file, click 'Edit Query', go to Query Editor, select 'Home' ribbon, choose 'Manage Parameters', configure as follows.

Then you can select 'View' ribbon, click 'Advanced Editor'.

c5.png

In 'Advanced Editor', you may replace the file path with the parameter called 'Client'.

Finally, you can click 'Close and Apply' and save it as a pbit file. When you open it, you may choose Client B file path.
