Summarize and display higher level result in lower level grouping in matrix

I have a matrix that drills down from a material item to a date/ purchase order.

I want to filter the matrix based on the following 2 parameters:

• Minimum # of sales for the material
• Date range

My problem is that when I set the minimum # of sales filter to anything more than 1, it filters out everything since every date/ purchase order is 1 sale. I want to create a measure for the purchase order level that shows the number of sales at the item level so I can filter off that. 

My approach was to create a summarized table that groups the data at the sales level and create a relationship to my main sales table to use that.  Unfortunately I also have a date range filter so the summarized table does not update based off the date range the user selects.

Any recommendations on how to solve for this?
