I have a simple table that looks like below. I want to get a sum/total of Unique Claim numbers by month (users have a date slicer to choose).
I tried just Distinct Count(# Unique ClaimsProcessed = DISTINCTCOUNT('Claims Pmts Processed Upload'[Claim #]), but it doesn't change when I choose a specific month from the slicer . I aslo tried this

Based on your description, do you create formulas that retain an external filtering context (such as a date field).
Refer to the following formulas (one contains a date filter, one does not)
M_ = CALCULATE(DISTINCTCOUNT('Table'[Category]),ALL('Table'))
M_slicerDate =
CALCULATE (
DISTINCTCOUNT ( 'Table'[Category] ),
ALLEXCEPT ( 'Table', 'Table'[Date] )
)
