SQL connection "Unable to Connect"

Hi, I'm trying to connect power BI desktop to a named SQL instance but I keep getting the error
"Unable to Connect" We encountered an error while trying to connect. Details ""

I've tried re-installing Power BI for desktop and on anther PC. Different creds etc. The error message doesn't give many hints! 

Any ideas?

If the issue persists even after reinstallation, and installing on multiple machines, then it doesn't seem to be a problem with power BI. The problem could be in your environment or in the network.

Are you able to reach the SQL server from the machine in which Power BI is installed?

G'day, Thanks for the reply. That does make sence. We use this SQL server for heaps of other things though. There's maybe 20 databases on it. (SQL 2014). Is there a way to check local logs or similar to get a bit more info?

well, you can start with a simple ping to the SQL server... if that works, you can try a telnet with port 1433 (default SQL server port) if neither of them work, you would need to contact your network team.
