Refreshing a csv file on Onedrive takes up to an hour?

I feel like I've just been transported back to the late 90's.

I have a pbix desktop file that uses a csv file as its source. The csv file is on my OneDrive for Business, and is regularly updated via an R script that I'm using for analysis. All files are in the same folder on OneDrive.

When I re-write to the csv file, and then refresh the pbix file, nothing happens and the changes are not picked up in pbix. Odd, so I searched online and found this:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/refresh-desktop-file-onedrive

" If you edit the .csv file in OneDrive, or SharePoint Online, once you save, those changes will appear in Power BI, usually within about an hour. "

Within about an hour? Really? Am I missing something? This should be instantaneous.

I believe the issue that you are running into is around caching. Yes, it is instantaneous but the cache doesn't clear for some time.

Shouldn't a refresh clear any cache? Otherwise, what is the point of the refresh button. Or is there a way to force clear the cache?

In any case, i've been waiting for 3 hours now and it still hasn't refreshed. In the meantime, i've had to create a brand new pbix file and rebuild the report from scratch using the newly created csv file.

Hi B_Real,

In power bi service, data will be refreshed automatically within 1h, however, in power bi desktop, you should click refresh manually.

Perhaps my original post wasn't clear.

I'm using Power BI Desktop only, not Power BI service. When I click refresh manually in Power BI desktop, nothing happens. The changes that I make to the csv file (in R) are not updated in Power BI desktop. Not within an hour, and not even after an hour. Not even the next day.

I think this is a OneDrive synching problem. Classic. The csv file is up to date in my Windows Explorer folder, but not on OneDrive.com, which I assume is where the pbix file is pointing to.

Very bizarre, yesterday I even made sure that there was a green 'synch' tick in Windows Explorer. It was there, I saw it. That's why I posted here. But today, its not there. Its a blue 'processing' circular arrow, that is going nowhere. It won't synch.

OneDrive sucks.
