Publish a Live Connection Report to a different Workspace

Ok, I built and published a report (Import mode with a model to a Data Warehouse) and decided I wanted to reuse that model going forward, so I built my next report using a Live Connection to the first one.

I built and published these to Workspace "Dev".  Now I want them to be published to Workspace "Prod".

I can publish the original report (with model and dataset) to "Prod" and can refresh the data.  All is good.

However, it looks like I cannot publish the 2nd report to "Prod" because it was built using a Live Connect to a dataset in my "Dev" workspace?  I just saw this limitation listed on the Live Connect page:

  • When you create a report based on dataset using a live connection to the Power BI service, you can only publish that report to the same Power BI service workspace that contains the dataset being used.

Please tell me this isnt true.  There has to be some sort of workaround.

Hi @ThomVF,

I'm afraid that is true. The workaround could be using the old pbix file or downloading it from Power BI Service. Then upload it to PROD.
