Newbie cannot find the Filters, Visualisations and Fields area to the right? :-( Please advise! :-)

I am doing an online course on Power BI Desktop and trying to follow along on my own software that I successfully loaded.

The sections on the right of the data is missing where there should be Filters, Visualisations and Fields area?  From the off before I import the excel files and after I have the data imported this vital area is missing to the right??

I have played with the menus such as View but scratching my head.  This should be something very straigtforward I imagine for an established user?  I hope so!

Please advise.

Hi @colgor ,

Please check your display settings, please use recommended setting as suggested

  • Display: At least 1440x900 or 1600x900 (16:9) recommended. Lower resolutions such as 1024x768 or 1280x800 are not recommended, as certain controls (such as closing the startup screen) display beyond those resolutions.
  • Windows Display settings: If your display settings are set to change the size of text, apps, and other items to more than 100%, you may not be able to see certain dialogs that must be closed or responded to in order to proceed using Power BI Desktop. If you encounter this issue, check your Display settings by going to Settings > System > Display in Windows, and use the slider to return display settings to 100%.

But I have found a similar post, please refer to it to see if it helps you.

visualizations pane and fields pane is not displaying in power bi desktop report view

  • Setting the desktop background - font scaling to 100%

It looked like this ....

colgor_0-1645561225228.png

... the right side of the program was cut off when dragged to the top of the screen to maximise, made it a smaller window which made the option re appear and clicking the maximise button instead kept the options on the right present.

I figured it out to drag the window lower and then maximise to get the normal screen as below.

Thank you for your interest in helping me to resolve a simple but what was a very frustrating little thing.

I have found what the problem was so can resolve but still does not explain why this happens?  It is the case that when I drag the window to the top it maximises the screen but the area to the right for Filters, Visualisations and Fields area is missing.  When I use the maximise button in the top right the screen appears at it should.  The strange thing is when I closed it and launched Power BI Desktop again the issue was there from the off when one would have thought this would have solved it but still needed to click the maximise button on the top right hand corner.  Perhaps this is a Windowns issue and not limuted to Power BI Desktop.  Thanks.

Hi @colgor ,

Please, could you share a screenshot of the whole screen? 🙂

Thanks!
