Hi,
I removed all data within a PowerBI model but the overall model size remains roughly the same (8Mb from 11Mb). However, if I create the same model from scratch it's only 541kb.
Thanks

Hi @PBIdeas ,
If you delete all pages and buttons, how much the size of the file will become?
Or you can change your file suffix to Zip and unzip it, check the Layout file. Maybe this file is the point.

@PBIdeas , In a model, if you create new calculated columns, tables, load more data. All will account. Plus once you create visual that will add to file size.
refer how to check size

The model does not contain any data (I will connect it later to a PowerBI dataset), so I don't see how this can be a performance issue as there are no data/calculations in there.
I would start over but there's some navigation funtionalities there that I would like to avoid re-doing from scratch but that's it in terms of contents of model at this point.
Hi @PBIdeas ,
What data source are you connected to, and what is the connection mode?
Do you have many date/time columns in your model?
Maybe you can turn this off in options.
Or maybe you can unzip your pbix file and check which part takes up the most memory, please refer this article.

Hi,
I am not connected to any data, that's the whole point. Let me go through the steps:
1. Original model (11Mb)
2. Removed all data sources and visuals taking the file size to 8Mb. At this point, the model only includes a cover page and some 15 blank pages with some action buttons
3. Created the same model as 2. from scracth which only gives me a file size under 1Mb
Step 2. is done in advance of linking the model to a PowerBI dataset but this has done be done yet.
Thank you.

Hi,
If I remove everything (minus the cover and navigation buttons) the file goes down to the 8Mb which I mentioned initially.
As I read the post shared, the solution is basically starting over which I did. It's not the most efficient approach but the underlying data is proprietary and cannot be shared outside my Organization.
Thanks!
