How to escape <br/> in data?

I am pulling data from a sql database and have some custom strings I am generating. One of them contains HTML line breaks, <br/> but when I import into my report those breaks are parsed as actual line breaks. I need to preserve them in the text and displayed in the table  and preserved when exporting to csv. How can I stop Power BI parsing html contained in a cell and treat it as plain-text?

@wcarter , Based on what i got.

 

Make sure the datatype in Power Query is Text. Use Clean or replace to remove <Br/>
