Gateway question

If my Power BI desktop report is connected to a data source within an on-premises gateway, and the data is scheduled to refresh nightly, will my desktop .pbix report load the refreshed data each morning when I open it, or will I need to click refresh each time I open the .pbix report?

Hi @bchager6 ,

the task of the Power BI Gateway is to provide secure transfer between an on-prem source and Power BI Service. Only reports/datasets in Power BI Service can be scheduled to refresh.

Your Power BI Desktop file will have to be manually refreshed, unless you are using direct query mode.

Thanks, @sturlaws . Is it accurate to say that once I publish a desktop report to a Workspace, that it becomes a part of the PBI service?
