Formatting Dollar Amounts (e.g., $1000 -> $1K)

I was reading this question on how to format a number as $1K. I already have my numbers in thousands, so currently it just says $1 in the table. However, I am unable to follow the screenshot from the linked question since Power BI seems to have updated its interface since 2018. Does anyone know how to replicate this using the current version of Power BI?

** I want the formatted number to stay as a number format, not string.

Hi @324,

You want the formatted number to stay as a number format, not string,right?

Here are my steps you can follow:

(1)This is my test data.

(2) Click "data" in the left menu bar, select the column "Dollar Amounts", you can click "$" and change the data type to whole number in the function bar above according to the diagram.

(3) Click on the left menu bar "report", select the visual object, as shown below to change its format visual.

(4) Then the result is as follows. Such a change will only change the visual object and will not affect that data, which will still be of type number.

Does that solution keep the values as numbers and not strings? @ribisht17

@324 , Enter this in format for Column tools or in Property pane In data model view after choosing the custom format

###,##0,.0K

Does that solution keep the values as numbers and not strings? I don't want the values to be strings @amitchandak
