How can I display the month and year in my bar charts
I have concatenate labels turned off on the x axis and my data points I'm referencing - created date and closed date - is formatted to (yyyy-mm)
Solved! Go to Solution.
In the Axis bucket, drag Year above the Month name. On the chart visual, click on the Organisation hierarchy icon to expand Years into Months.
Hi,
What result are you expecting?
Where the chart currently displays the months only - I was hoping to show it as Jan-21 - Feb-21 as people have been getting confused that it's showing November, not realising it's meant to be Nov-20
Hi,
Assuming you have a Calendar Table with the year and Month name columns, drag those columns to the X-axis of the graph. If you do not have a Calendar table, create one. Build a relationship from the base data table to the Calendar table. In the Calendar table, write calculated column formulas to extract Year, Month name and Month number. Sort the Month name column by the Month number column. To your visual, drag Year and Month name columns from the Calendar Table.
Hope this helps.
I have created a date table, but what field do I create the relationship with - I want to display the total number of actions that have the status as 'assigned', 'delegate' verify' and the month they are due in
From the date column in the action record table to the Date column of the Date table.
I've done that - but it's still not displaying the year - do I need to change the chart type?
In the Axis bucket, drag Year above the Month name. On the chart visual, click on the Organisation hierarchy icon to expand Years into Months.
Thank you so much for your help - that has worked!
You are welcome.
what information do you need to make it clearer - I'm only a beginner user so I'm still learning and not sure how to do what you've suggested
@narragirl85 , Can you share sample data and sample output in table format?
In case you want to deal with two dates. Having same filter, refer https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/HR-Analytics-Active-Employee-Hire-and-Termination-tr...
Power BI - Sample Data - I've saved it in my Google Drive because it was too large to insert here
@narragirl85 , Not very clear. Create a date table and have column like this and use that on x- axis
Month Year = FORMAT([Date],"yyyy-mm")
Month Year sort = FORMAT([Date],"yyyymm")
To get the best of the time intelligence function. Make sure you have a date calendar and it has been marked as the date in model view. Also, join it with the date column of your fact/s. Refer :radacad sqlbi My Video Series Appreciate your Kudos.
