Couldn't load the schema for the database model:
Couldn't load the model schema associated with this report. Make sure you have a connection to the server, and try again.
1. Credentials: credentials for the DB are correct, and in any case, loading the rows from the database works, so I don't see this as the problem. Only direct query presents a problem here.
2. Clear cache: tried
3. Upgrade to October release of PBI Desktop: tried.
4. Connection to the DB: like I said, loading the rows into PBI the normal way works, so I don't see how this is the problem either. It's only a problem with Direct query.
I'm out of ideas. Can someone please help?

Hi @dniedrauer,
What is your Oracle database version? To support Direct Query, Oracle Database should be version 12 and above.
By the way, do mask sensitive data before uploading your persoanl information.

Same in my case. Latest Oracle XE database.
Import works, DirectQuery does not work.
The report was tested using the desktop version.
Here both works perfectly.
When using a PowerApp to access the data it also works when using the gateway.
Only the published report has a problem when calling it within the browser.
Using the same scenario with a Microsoft SQL server also both methods were successful.
You can try to install the orcale database client in Runtime type not the instantclient, than the problem should be fixed.
Hi @dniedrauer,
If you append port number after your server address, please remove it and try again.

Yuliana Gu
This is the format I have for the server servername:1521/datasourcename
it works fine for data load. Should the format be different for direct query and if so what?

My Oracle Database version is 18.0.0.0.0. I am having the same issue with Direct Query.
This is a very useful answer.
Because no, it's 11-something, and this is what I was afraid of...
