Hey folks - I keep running into issues with the way that I'm trying to build my report and am looking for advice.
The Goal
Report ~10 metrics for a given time period and the comparison versus the previous period
Time Periods
Yesterday vs Same Day Last Week
WTD vs Last WTD
Last Week vs Previous Week
Last 4 Weeks vs Previous 4 Weeks
Financial YTD vs Previous Financial YTD
I think the best way visually to be able to display this is to have a single report page which handles period vs comparison period and then a selection which allows the user to change which period they are interested in.
The alternative is to display all in a single place and that would result in somewhere around 100 measures (10 metrics for 10 different time periods), so I think that's overkill.
I've created a table which contains the different options for the time periods but I'm struggling to build something which calculates the dates that need to be contained in the calculations.
For example, I need to calculate (for each period selected), the start date and end date of the period, and then the start date and end date of the previous period. I think, by doing this, it should be easy to then just use those dates as filters to the metrics that I've already created.
Cherry on top - I believe the method above would work fine for showing measures, but it wouldn't allow me to plot the time periods on a graph and show this period vs last period. Any suggestions on how to manage that?
Has anybody done something similar to this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
