Commentary Column

I'm searching for a way to add an editable column to a table/matrix within Power BI that allows for the user to enter text in a specific row. For example, a list of GL accounts and their respective amounts and a column beside the account/amounts that allows for commentary to be added.

 

PowerBI is a seeminly limitless tool, except for this feature, and it boggles my mind. I don't understand how such a seemingly simple feature that has been asked for over the course of several years, seemingly since PowerBI's inception, does not have this feature. This is something that, if built as a native function, would expand PowerBI's capability so much - so I seriously don't get why the team managing its development has not found a way to implement. 

 

If anybody knows of a native solution to this, or a third party visual/PowerApp solution, please chime in.

Power BI is a READ ONLY tool. It does not have, and probably never will have, the ability to write back to the data sources. 

That being said, there are several 3rd party products that you can purchase that will do the write back for you. Or you can build your own using Power Apps, which integrate with Power BI. I tried it once as a demo, but am not a Power Apps developer. It worked, but took a lot of stumbling on my part. Hopefully you can figure it out faster.

Thank you, while disappointing, this makes sense. I'll continue searching for a way to do this but I'm not a developer so I probably won't have much luck.
