Comma Separator in Chart Visualizations

Hello,

I am new to Power BI and am stuck on a formatting issue. I would really like to include a comma separator for the numbers in my chart (see screenshot). However, every time I try to update formatting the option is always greyed out. I am assuming because the data format is text. Can anyone please help me figure out what I am doing wrong? I would really appreciate it.

Hi, @melandiemcgee

According to your description, I can roughly understand your problem, I think you can create a measure that uses the FORMAT() function to achieve the comma in the counted number even though it's “Text” type:

First, you should create a measure to count the value and nest the FORMAT() function outside like this:

Measure =

FORMAT(COUNT('Table'[Value]),"#,##0")

And you can get what you want, like this:

You can download my test pbix file below

More info about the FORMAT() function in DAX

If this result is not what you want, you can post some sample data(without sensitive data) and your expected result.

@melandiemcgee

You cannot apply number formatting to text, Change the data type in Power Query to Whole number or decimal or change in the data model as needed:

I figured the text format was problematic. Even when I try changing the data type I get an error.

But, when setting up my chart and I select that it "count" my field values which produce a number, is there no way to add a comma to the counted number produced. Similar to how counted values can be formatted with a comma separator in Excel.
