Hello Microsoft community,
I have a requirement to schedule data refresh for my SQL data source in Power BI Service, but I don't have an on-premises server. I'm looking for suggestions and guidance on how to achieve this successfully.
Details:
Data Source: My SQL database
Power BI Service: I'm using Power BI Pro or Power BI Premium
Refresh Frequency: I need to set up a scheduled refresh for the data daily basis
Connection: I want to ensure the data is refreshed directly from the MY SQL database without relying on an on-premises gateway.
Please share any available methods or best practices to accomplish this requirement.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best regards,
Jaydeep

Hi. I'm sorry but you can't. MySQL it's a source that requires a driver. That's why it needs the gateway to work. You can't get rid of installing an OnPremise data gateway for that source. If you have the MySQL at a cloud, you can create a VM on the same cloud to install the gateway. That way the data can flow at the same network.
As an alternative, you can think about a tool that moves the data to a warehouse and then connect Powerbi. Create a warehouse/lakehouse as a single source of truth. Then connect PowerBi to a model at that source.
I hope that helps,
