Sorting Column Dates in a Matrix Table

Hi All,

I am hoping to get some assistance using the Power BI Service.  I would like to create a matrix table that shows sales figures by month for a list of subsidiaries.  I can create the matrix fine, but it sorts the dates in alphabetical order instead of the expected month order:

If instead of using the month names, I use the month numbers this works fine. However I want to use the month names as the column headers not the month number.  I also do not want to have to use a combination of month number and name (ie. 01 January, 02 February).

I have tried the advice in this article, however there is no tooltip available for a matrix, so I could not follow these instructions beyond step 3: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/desktop-sort-by-column?tabs=powerbi-servic...

The current configuration looks like:

I have a Date table setup with a relationship to my sales table, and the date table looks like the following:

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Ben

I've managed to solve this by editing the Semantic Model, selecting my Date table -> Month_Name field and then in the Advanced Settings there was an option to select a sort by column.

This then sorted the columns in the Chronological order.

Hopefully this helps someone in future.

Hello @bensimpsy ,

yes, you can sort the month name by the month number in the data view.

Thanks for the reply, however I am using the Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com) not the Desktop App and this same approach doesn't seem to apply.
