Sensitivity Labels at the Dataset Level

Hi everyone!

We created sensitivity labels to attach to reports, datasets, and dashboards.

When a label is attached to a report in the service, and the data from that report is exported; the sensitivity label is inherited and can be seen attached to the exported data.

But when we attach sensitivity labels to datasets in the service, the sensitivity labels don't appear to be attached to the exported data. When we try to analyze the dataset in Excel; we see an error message that acknowledges the sensitivity label but also states, "The dataset sensitivity label won't be applied to the file when opening it using Analyze in Excel."

I can't seem to find much info behind a use case for attaching sensitivity labels to datasets in the service. Where would I be able to see the functionality for sensitivity labels at the dataset-level?

Thanks in advance!

Adam

Hi there

As far as I am aware even though you can create a sensitivity label on the dataset, it is not actually used with the dataset.

You have to apply and use it at the report or dashboard level. This will also tie into the Enterprise Information Management if you have this applied and working in your organization.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Please refer to the documentations, they mention some limitations on the feature of sensitive labels, like this:

"Label and protection controls enforcement on exported files is supported only for Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. Label and protection are not enforced when data is exported to .CSV files, Subscribe to email, Embed visuals and print."

Considerations and limitations
