Schedule Refresh Error: Information is needed in order to combine data

I have a dataset that uses Web APIs to get the data and contains a merged query and I am getting the following error when my dataset does a scheduled refresh:

"Data source error: Information is needed in order to combine data;Information about a data source is required.. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface. Table: EC2 Opportunities."

I am not using a gateway. I saw this thread which has nearly the exact same problem but there was never a solution. I have read through similar solutions and have made sure all my privacy level settings are set to "None", both in the desktop file and on the service. I have also selected "Always ignore Privacy Level settings" in the file's Global options, as well as "Ignore the Privacy Levels and potentially improve performance" in the Current File options.

The issue is definitely cause by merged and appended queries. I could not find a solution, but there is a workaround using DAX functions that was mentioned in this discussion. Annoying... but technically works.

What about if you allow the Gateway to use cloud as well as on-premise data sources together and see if that works?

Does the refresh work successfully on Power BI Desktop?

Since I'm not using a gateway I don't have the option to modify any Gateway settings, and it does refresh just fine on the desktop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think this issue is because the API endpoints I'm using to get the data that I'm trying to merge are different versions that use different authentication methods, which causes the Power BI service to have a fit.

Hi there

yes that could quite possibly be the issue.

I would suggest looking to use the Gateway to do the refreshing for you, which in my experience would allow it to refresh as it does in Power BI Desktop.
