Hi,
I have issues with refreshing my datasets from Power BI service. Everytime I get this error message: "The refresh operation failed because it took too long to complete. Consider reducing the size of your dataset or breaking it up into smaller datasets."
When I refresh it from Power BI Desktop it works everytime without any error messages.
The size of the largest dataset is 517 MB.
Anything that can be done to get the refresh working from Service without deleting data or breaking it up do even smaller datasets?
Thanks,
Gustav
Hi @gushal
The maximum size for a pro license is 1G, your file is still in range however for sure it needs optimisation where it can reduce its size.
Other solution would be upgrading to premium capacity if the cost wouldn't be a problem.

Hi , @gushal
As far as I know, Power BI's dataset is highly compressed when stored in PBI, and will be expanded to about ten times the size when refreshed, and the specific refresh time and the size of the occupied resources will also be affected by the complexity of the data conversion steps in the data set. This XMLA endpoint refresh is not limited in time or size, which means that there will never be a timeout error, you can refer to this document:
