Prevent users from editing reports, but let them create their own

Anyone know if this is possible? Cause it doesn't seem like it to me. Viewer is too limited. We have some users that want to create their own reports based on the datasets/flows we have created, but we don't want them to edit/delete existing reports.

Is there a way to do this?

Hey @peterg0417 ,

That is a valid alternative as well - sharing the datasets or dataflows with them allows them to do their own work but not affect your setup.

Hi @peterg0417 ,

There is no way to do this to my knowledge - if you give somebody Contributor access then they can modify the existing data.

However, I am thinking that there may be a way to do this if you separate your reports and datasets into different workspaces and lock down one workspace but give them rights in the second workspace to create/modify the reports and have the dataset linked to the second workspace.

Or, if you want to give yourself an administrative headache, you could just copy the dataset into a second workspace and then you have two different workspaces with the same basic dataset (but, the headache is that you have to keep those datasets in sync).

Yea that's what I was thinking too. Different workspaces.

Or could I share the datasets/dataflows with them, and let them create their own reports like that? They still wouldn't be able to publish reports to that main workspace, but they could use their own team's workspaces.
