PowerBi Capability

Dear Support,

I need information on licensing of powerbi on its Capability and performance

What would be the right license for the following scenario

    •  Real Time/Streaming of data whereby  updates are done almost every minute from source. How quick does a refresh happen and would there by any latency.
    • There are reports  which are periodically updated and the data size is approx 1-2mil records.
    • Evaluating the capabilities of PBI Premium vs PPU
    • Best practises around the setup for PBI Tenants and reports to yield the best performance

Please do share  detailed information and supporting documents.

Regards

Anamika

Hi @AnamikaM

Power BI can do realtime streaming, and if required can have a direct connection to a SQL style database which refreshes in realtime . However this depends more on the speed of the data feed, (the SQL server providing the data) than the Power BI service.

Dataset Size depends to some extent on the cardinality of your data. The more repetitions there are in your data the better it will be compressed in your dataset, so it's difficult to estimate size based on number of redords alone. However there are many instances of Datasets with 5-6 million rows in a Pro dataset, but as ever "it depends".

For licencing see: Power BI Free vs Pro and Premium | Burningsuit

for best practice and performance see: Power BI guidance from the CAT – BI Polar (ssbipolar.com)

Hope this helps
