Live Data from Jira to Power BI

Hi Team,

I need some help in connecting and accessing live data.
We did a Power BI Design and the data for our Organization and the designs and data models are okay.

Problem-1:
Is it possible to get the live data from Jira to our Power BI on the dashboard we designed ?
If we can, how can we achieve it ?

Problem-2:
Once the dashboard is completed and updated, we need some integration from Power BI --> Slack,
We need like a Scheduler for every month, so it can push the Power BI Dashboard to Slack channel or a single user.

Problem-1: Connecting Jira Data to Power BI

Yes, it's possible to connect Jira data to Power BI. Here's how you can achieve it:

  1. Power BI Desktop: Open Power BI Desktop and navigate to the "Home" tab.

  2. Get Data: Click on "Get Data" and select the data source type. Jira may not be directly listed, so you might need to use a connector like "Web" or "Other" and then use Jira's API to pull the data.

  3. API Connection: You'll need to provide the API endpoint of your Jira instance and any required authentication details (such as API token or username/password).

  4. Data Import: Once connected, you can import the data into Power BI and start building your reports and dashboards.

  5. Refresh: Set up a refresh schedule so that your Jira data is regularly updated in Power BI.

Problem-2: Pushing Power BI Dashboard to Slack

You can achieve this integration using Power BI's built-in subscription feature and Slack's incoming webhooks. Here's how:

  1. Power BI Subscription:

    • In the Power BI Service, go to your dashboard.
    • Click on the ellipsis (...) in the top-right corner of the dashboard tile you want to share.
    • Select "Subscribe" and configure the subscription settings (frequency, recipients, etc.).
  2. Slack Incoming Webhooks:

    • In Slack, set up an incoming webhook for the channel or user where you want to receive the Power BI dashboard.
    • Note down the webhook URL generated by Slack.
  3. Power Automate (Optional):

    • You can use Power Automate (formerly known as Microsoft Flow) to automate the process of pushing the Power BI dashboard to Slack.
    • Create a flow that triggers when the Power BI subscription sends an email (Power BI can send email notifications for subscriptions).
    • Configure the flow to send a message to the Slack webhook URL with the dashboard link.
  4. Testing and Deployment:

    • Test the integration to ensure that the Power BI dashboard is pushed to Slack as expected.
    • Deploy the solution and set up any necessary monitoring or logging for troubleshooting.

@johnbasha33 Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

Here I found some links that may be relevant to your question.

You can indeed get real-time data from Jira to Power BI dashboards. The Power BI Connector for Jira 2024 Edition supports advanced Jira reporting and includes features such as Power BI dashboard templates and seamless integration of Power BI reports as widgets into Jira dashboards.

You can integrate Power BI with Slack and set up a monthly planner using third-party services that connect Power BI to Slack. These services allow you to export data from Power BI and import it into Slack to create reports, dashboards, and visualizations in it.
